Buy NMN: what to check first, and what to actually buy.
You want NMN. Great, but every brand claims theirs is the "purest" and the "most bioavailable". The 6 things below are the only ones that actually change what you get for your money. Below the guide, the top 5 NMN products on the site right now, scored the same way as every other product (39 NMN products from 29 brands tracked).
Two picks: highest score and cheapest at trial dose.
The overall score measures how well a product is made. The trial dose comes from published human RCTs (250 mg to 1,250 mg per day). "Cheapest at trial dose" means the daily cost to reproduce what the trial actually used, not the cheapest bottle. What is RxD-$?

The 6-point checklist before you hit buy.
Every one of these can be checked from the brand's own website in under a minute. If any of them is missing, walk away.
-
Dose per serving is between 250 mg and 1,250 mg
Human trials use this range. Under 250 mg is a starter dose; over 1,250 mg has no added benefit and starts to waste money. Skip anything under 100 mg unless it is a stack labelled honestly.
-
The brand publishes a recent Certificate of Analysis (CoA)
A CoA is a batch-specific lab report proving what is in the capsule. It must be dated within the last 12 months and cover the batch you're buying. If the brand only offers a "CoA on request", that is not the same. What is a CoA?
-
Tested by independent lab by an independent lab
Not tested by the manufacturer. Look for names like Eurofins, Alkemist, NSF, or Informed Choice on the CoA. Self-testing is worthless. Third-party testing definition.
-
Cold-chain and moisture-controlled shipping
NMN is hygroscopic. It absorbs moisture and degrades to nicotinamide (a much weaker molecule) if stored badly. Reputable brands ship in moisture-barrier pouches with desiccants. Bulk powder in a plastic bag is a red flag.
-
Regulatory status in your country
NMN is legally unclear in the US (FDA has not resolved the NDI question) and not authorised in the EU as of Sep 2026 (EFSA gave a positive opinion in May 2026 but no listing yet). Brands that ship to the EU without a Novel Food authorisation are shipping at their own regulatory risk. Read the current regulatory tracker.
-
Cost per day at the trial dose, not the label serving
A cheap bottle at 125 mg per serving is not cheaper than a $60 bottle at 500 mg. Calculate RxD-$: the cost per day to reproduce what the trial used. Every product page on this site shows RxD-$ so you don't have to do the math yourself.

Where to buy: 4 rules that survive changing platforms.
- Direct from the brand is cleanest. Fewer hands touching the product, easier returns, the CoA is always the most current one.
- Amazon is convenient but adds counterfeit risk. If you buy on Amazon, buy only from the brand's official Amazon storefront (not third-party sellers), and check that "Ships from and sold by [brand]".
- iHerb and Vitacost are fine for stocked brands. They rotate stock quickly enough that products stay fresh, and their pricing is competitive.
- Skip aggregator marketplaces you have not heard of. A brand you have never heard of, sold on a marketplace you have never heard of, at a price 60% below the brand's own site, is a counterfeit. Every time.
Common questions
Is NMN the same as NAD+?
No. NMN is a precursor. Your body converts it to NAD+, the actual coenzyme. You cannot take NAD+ orally in useful amounts because it does not survive digestion.
Is NMN or NR better?
Both raise NAD+. Both are safe at trial doses. Head-to-head trials are limited. NMN has more direct human trials, NR has GRAS status in the US. For a full comparison, see the NMN vs NR page.
Do I need to take NMN sublingually?
Not clearly. Sublingual absorption has some support in vitro, but human data comparing sublingual to oral NMN is limited. Capsules work; convenience matters for adherence.
What time of day should I take NMN?
Morning is the most common recommendation, because NAD+ follows a circadian rhythm and peaks in the morning. There is no strong human trial data comparing morning to evening dosing.
Can I take NMN with statins or blood thinners?
No known dangerous interactions in the human trials to date, but this is not medical advice. Talk to your prescribing doctor. See our interactions page for the general framework.
