Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial of Krill Oil Supplementation for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain in Older Adults.
In a 40-person pilot, krill oil raised the omega-3 index; pain findings were exploratory and not definitive.

Recruitment targets were met within 8 months. Retention was 95%, adherence exceeded 70% in both groups, and acceptability averaged 7.7 out of 10. Krill oil increased the omega-3 index from 4.3% to 7.4%; the placebo group had no meaningful change. Pain outcomes were exploratory. The abstract reports trends favouring krill oil for pain intensity, fewer pain sites and global improvement. The reduction in pain sites had a rate ratio of 0.59, with a 95% confidence interval from 0.41 to 0.84. The global-improvement odds ratio was 4.35, but its 95% confidence interval, 0.97 to 19.55, included no effect. No serious adverse events occurred.
This trial shows that the regimen was feasible and altered omega-3 status. It was not powered as a definitive pain-efficacy study, and it says nothing about longevity.
