Alsinani Y, Al-Busafi M, Shirvani H

THREE-ARM RANDOMISED, DOUBLE-BLIND, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED TRIAL Tier 3 2026

In 24 adolescent soccer players, taurine raised IL-10 after repeated match simulations, with no performance or health outcomes tested.

Blood samples were taken at baseline, after the first and third simulations, and 24 hours after the third. Outcomes included markers of muscle damage, oxidative stress, inflammation, hormones, and circulating immune cells. Taurine increased IL-10 more than the comparison reported in the abstract: 7.5±0.2 versus 5.7±0.2 pg/mL (p=0.005). Both taurine and coenzyme Q10 preserved CD4 counts relative to placebo, with 795±14 cells/μL for taurine, 790±13 for coenzyme Q10, and 680±15 for placebo. The abstract says taurine was more useful for targeted IL-10 elevation, while coenzyme Q10 was better for several oxidative-stress and muscle-damage markers. No adverse events occurred. This is an acute sports-biomarker study in adolescent males. It does not establish better athletic performance, illness prevention, adult health, or longevity.

Taurine may be preferred for targeted anti-inflammatory support through IL-10 elevation in adolescent soccer players undergoing intensified training.
Kritikernoter

There were only 8 participants per arm and 14 days of supplementation. The participants were adolescent male athletes, and the outcomes were short-term blood biomarkers around simulated matches rather than performance, clinical, or longevity endpoints.
