Randomised, placebokontrollerad crossover trial in postmenopausal women. Polyphenol intake increased circulating lipid levels but improved LDL particle quality and reduced LDL oxidation. The effect was metabotype-dependent: urolithin A producers showed different responses compared to non-producers. Age also modulated the response. The study is from the same research group (Espin lab, CEBAS-CSIC, Murcia) that has published extensively on ellagitannin metabolism and urolithin A. While not a direct urolithin A supplementation trial, it demonstrates the relevance of urolithin A metabotype status for cardiovascular lipid outcomes in an aging population.
